The exhibition Exploring the Boundaries of Painting aims to examine the limits and possibilities that painting, as a medium, faces in the contemporary context. The three participating artists—Pascal VAN DER GRAAF, Jan Maarten VOSKUIL, and Lily DE BONT—approach painting from different perspectives, challenging its conventional framework. Together, they seek to transform painting from a traditional two-dimensional plane into a structural art of three-dimensional space, creating an experimental exploration of contemporary expression that moves from surface to volume.
Pascal VAN DER GRAAF (Yang Wen-Chih) treats the canvas as a malleable material vocabulary. Through spatial folding, the manipulation of light and shadow, and variations of texture, he redefines the very essence of “painting” and the ways it can be perceived. Jan Maarten VOSKUIL takes the stretcher frame as a constructive foundation, breaking free from the constraints of the rectangle to create works that embody both sculptural and painterly qualities. Lily DE BONT, on the other hand, approaches painting through the canvas itself—cutting, reassembling, and fracturing its surface—to deconstruct its inner structures and surface logic.
All three artists have extensive international exhibition experience and recognition, with works that have captured the attention of the global art scene and serious collectors. This marks the first time they present together in Korea, jointly shaping a cross-cultural experimental exhibition of painting with high artistic value and forward-looking vision—showcasing the dynamic energy of dialogue between contemporary art from Taiwan, the Netherlands, and the international stage.
